I’m just testing my new android phone. A Samsung Galaxy S II.

I’m loving it so far. The screen is large enough to see well, 4.3″ if I’m not wrong and the QWERTY keyboard, so similar to the iPod Touch I used to have, is a vast improvement over the usual phone keyboard.

I have to go now, but I’ll be posting more often. There are quite a few things I want to write about.

Test from the iPad

Well, this is just a test to see if I can finally post something from the iPad.

I already wrote something for the LiveJournal and it worked great. I’m not to happy with the WordPress app I’m using. It’s rather limiting in format. But should do for small posts. When I need to post a story or something, then I’ll use the desktop.

Writing

<div class=\"postavatar\">writing</div>

It’s been long since I last posted something to the blogs. Truth be told I have been busy trying to work on my fanfictions. I really have almost two hundred of what I call Story Bunnies (these are stories that have from 3 to 400 pages of written notes).

To make things worse I haven’t stopped writing new ideas (plot bunnies and story bunnies). There have been several challenges at Potions and Snitches Archive that I really want to respond to. One of the challenges has so far two responses, and the other one. I have avoided reading them to keep my ideas clear.

Other things that I have been doing is that my faithful iPod Classic (32 gb) finally died on me. It had been with me for at least three years I think, probably even four. I did replaced it already with an iPod Touch. I’m extremely happy with the thing. It not only plays music, but lets you do quite a lot of things, even if the screen is pretty small.

On the iPod I have QuickOffice Connect, so I can not only read, but also work with my stories. I only need a wifi connection, and the places I frequent have public wifi. For this I use both GoogleDocs (for notes and plot outlines), and my favourite, Dropbox (this is the referals link). I love this service and while the free account has 2 Gb of space. I do require much more so I have the 50 Gb account. I even convinced my mother to have it, that way all of her computers (an old laptop, a desktop, and a netbook) documents are syncronized. My nephew also has it.

I have also found the new version of Fanfiction Dowloader to be wonderful even if it has only two sites for now. The previous versions used to have many more. This new version has the advantage of outputting the fanfictions in epub, mobi (and a few other ebook formats). It does require an additional software named Calibre, but I’m quite pleased with it as a way to FINALLY have all of the fanfictions I used to store in my hard disk in order. The best of this is that I also get to have a library of published novels by classic authors (those free). I can also read the fanfictions in my iPod Touch using either Stanza, or iBook. I personally like Stanza better.

There is another fanfiction downloader site that I use. FicSavers It’s web based and outputs either html documents or docs. This one has more sites available, and I especially like it because I can get stuff from HP Fandom, Adultfanfiction.net, SkyeHawke, and Potion and Snitches Archive. I used to get The Silver Snitch II fics as well, but the downloader hasn’t been on line for a while. Converting these files to ebooks is not that easy, the end with some extra pages, but I get around that with another software named Sigil.

Update, soccer, and writing

It’s been a while since I wrote on any of the blogs, and have to admit to being neglectful. I really don’t have an excuse, as I’m not working or anything.

I have been writing though, and reading as much as I can. I’m rather obsessive about reading, and if the story is good I just can’t stop reading until I reach the end, or the last of what has been written. Lately my reading has been more focused on time travel stories. I prefer the re-do type, especially if they include part of TDH (The Deathly Hollows) but omit the Epilogue, or have Harry and Ginny divorce. Never liked the pairing, and was very disappointed that in TDH Rowling got them together, but it’s done, and thank good for fanfiction since I can read other outcomes.

Sites Troubleshooting

<div class=\"postavatar\">sites-troubleshooting</div>

For a while now I have been having problems with my WordPress installations. Iycorner.net, alandrem.net, and a couple more that were simply tests for my fic lists. The problem was that I didn’t have enough memory for the pllugins that I require for the sites.

This was an experiment with ShareThis, and it seems ok so I’m probably going to be posting here some interesting tidbits that I find on the net

Present Time News

In response to some comments here (alandrem.net) about Present Time, I have to say that at the moment I have to put it on hold again. I was going to work on the re-write, of which I posted the first six chapters on Animealam’s Stories blog and LiveJournal.
Real life has gotten on the way of working on any of my stories for the moment. I have my elderly grandmother to take care of, and she requires constant attention as well as two people to move her on her bed. She is a very heavy woman, probably around 140 kilos (around 280 pounds) so at least two people must be around at all times. Her mind is also starting to fail, and most of the times refuses to eat or drink anything. This has us very worried, and the only thing we can see that might be positive on the whole thing is that she’ll loose some weight making it easier to move her when needed.
To add to the problem my mother just caught pneumonia, and she has always been an hyperactive woman unable to stay still for long. So I have to divide my time between my grandma, and making sure my mother is not doing anything but resting. Not an easy thing, she gets bored and tired of resting. Hopefully my mother will get better soon, although she barely escaped ending hospitalized because of her illness.
There is little hope my grandma will get off the bed. She is 84 almost 85, and her age has caught up with her. But  I believe I will be able to start working on my stories once I have adapted to the situation. We’ve hired a couple of nurses to help, and with any luck the muses will make a come back and I can find the time and will to write again.

Flowers

One of my hobbies is to take photos of flowers. This began as a way to have more backgrounds for my computers’ desktops. So far I don’t have that great a variety of photos as I mostly take photos of the flowers in my garden. I also don’t know the names of each plant, althought I’m going to research them. I am not the one who selects what to plant, and my mother juest goes for the beauty of the flower and never checks the name. So here is the first of my collection. I’ll try to post at least one a day. Knowing me I might not post in days, but hey, it’s my new year’s purpose to be more consistent with my posting.

Lucas

This is a phot of my previous cat, Lucas. It’s real name was Jean Luc, but it was too long so we shortened to Lucas or sometimes Huevo. It lived quite a bit, 16 years to be exact. Even though he has been gone for over a year -he died of Feline Lukemia- he is sorely missed.

First Post

Yet again here goes another attempt at blogging.

I was quite pleased with how the blog was working, but suddenly it started showing a blank page and I could not access the dashboard anymore. I tried several things until I finally decided to re-install and start over again. I’m not sure, but I suspect part of the problem with wordpress then was the syndication plugin I was using. It was great, but I cannot find it anymore, so maybe it was discontinued or something.
